Home of the Manatees

Winter is right around the corner and it’s the perfect time to snuggle up to a good book and pick up some gifts for the holidays!  We are hosting our Barnes and Noble Community Book Fair from Sunday, November 30th - Sunday, December 7th at the Barnes and Noble on South Orange Blossom Trail (next to Best Buy) across from the Florida Mall.  With this notice you will receive vouchers…when you shop at the book fair just let them know you are supporting MWE and hand in the voucher…if you have family and friends in the area, share one of the vouchers with them.  If you have folks who don’t live in the area, but would still like to support us, all they need to do is to let the store know that they are supporting MWE and give them this number at checkout time: #423962.  Our chorus will be performing at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, December 3rd…please stop by to hear our Singing Manatees!

I want to give a GREAT BIG thank you to two very dedicated volunteers: Claudia Guillory and Lillian Vando. They have become part of our MWE family and spend countless hours here in our Media Center working with our students and helping to keep our program running.  If you too would like to become a volunteer in the library, please contact me at 407 858 3140 x227.

If you are interested in checking out some of the FREE online resources that our county has provided us with, please feel free to contact me at andrea.parisi@ocps.net.  You may also visit Destiny, our online catalog at http://destiny.ocps.net …and then locating Meadow Woods Elementary on the list…the homepage has links to these resources and the catalog tab lets you view our collection…Parents are welcome to open up an account here too so that they may checkout materials to use at home.

We have a special request.  If you happen to be getting a new computer, TV, video camera (camcorder), or digital camera for the holidays…and the old one is still in working condition… we could REALLY use it for our TV Production work.  We could also use donations of NEW VHS and Mini DV tapes.  Our 4th and 5th graders apply work on Merlin’s Minutes, MWE’s version of the morning news, and we are in dire need of equipment for them to work with.  Your donations might be able to be used as a tax write off, will be greatly appreciated, and be given a new life here at MWE!

As of right now we have 34 students and staff members who have earned their SSYRA Reward Cards…Parents, ask your 3rd-5th graders if they are putting forth that extra effort to join this elite group!  We’d like to achieve 100% participation…if you need a flyer to learn more, just contact Mrs. Parisi.
